Small
journey today, only 344 km. It was good as the road was very hilly and we had
to stop often for road construction: work on bridges and widening. It is my
favorite part of the TransCanada Hwy though. The scenery is incredible with the
views on Lake Superior and the colorful exposed rock of the road trench. We had
a picnic at Rossport by the Lake. I put my feet in the water but did not dip
further. You have to be brave to swim in Lake Superior, it is almost as cold at
the St. Lawrence River. But what a marvel! On the West part of the Lake, there
are many islands and peninsulas. We stop on an Indian reserve of Pays Plat to
by some wild blueberries and smoked fish. A camping spot was waiting for us
with free mosquitoes in the provincial park Sleeping giant. We have the best
camping spot of the trip yet. Our site is not on the lake Marie Louise side but
we went for a swim through a unoccupied site across the road. This lake is a
good size but smaller than White lake and the water is nice and warm. We can
see the sleeping giant while in the water.
