We are
expecting our friends, Kiyoko and Sho, who live in Portland. We met them 31
years ago when we were in Davis. It is very nice to be close enough (a bit more
than 100 km) for them to visit. We are in a nice camping with a site that has
all the services, a first to have running water! After they arrive and visit
the trailer, we go to one of the information centre of Mount St. Helens. It is
few kilometers away. The life of many people has changed, 57 persons died (many
of them gone missing), properties were buried or carried away. It is very
interesting to see how the landscape has changed since the volcano erupted in
1980. It is now a sleeping mount! We did not go to the top as the clouds were
low. After the visit of the centre and the walk on the trail by the lake, we
came back to the campground for a potluck lunch. Kiyoko, as usual (like 31
years ago), has brought quite few things. As we finish lunch, the rain starts
and we finish the visit in the trailer. Our friends leave around 3pm and we
relax, reading, writing a bit and watching few episodes of Broadchurch that I
have on my computer. It is nice to relax and not drive!
