We leave early
as we want to be in Lethbridge for lunch. Southern Alberta is interesting with
its rolling hills, its prairies and intense agricultural activities. We were in
an area with extensive communal pasture but soon, it is grains, potatoes and
corn and irrigated fields. We will also see some large feedlots (Ha! The good
Alberta beef!). They also have a lot of wind turbines and solar panels. Looks
like Alberta does not rely only on oil after all. We stop in Taber to buy the
famous Taber corn. They will have their festival during the weekend. We have
lunch planned with Karen, a friend that we met in Saskatoon. She did her
masters degree at the Prairie Swine Centre where I worked and after she did
research for Claude before moving to Lethbridge. We have not seen her in many
years, so it is very nice to visit with her. We continue our journey toward
Cranbrook. The Rockies are, as usual, magnificient! Barbara and Christian are
happy to see us and indeed Taber corn freshly harvested is delicious!
