After
saying goodbye to Barbara, we stop in Cranbrook for a car and trailer wash.
They may be peculiar at the border. Thirty years ago when we had moved to
Davis, the agriculture department was at our door as soon as the moving truck
had left to inspect our things for soil residues... We have about 100 km before
we reach the Idaho boarder at East Port. It is a big border station but it does
not look that they have visiting scholar crossing often as it takes them more
than ½ hour to sort things out. Uncle Sam now has our finger prints and
picture. We made sure we did not bring much food along but their questions is
very minimal and they do not come out to inspect our trailer and car. We
continue our drive to stop in Spokane. We have a reservation at an RV park or I
would rather say a variation on a Walmart parking lot! Right by the freeway, it
is convenient, noisy and very cramped! So we park the Alto and leave! There is a
movie theater downtown with a mid-afternoon showing if ‘Ms. Florence Foster
Jenkins’. Downtown Spokane is very interesting and the refinement of the architecture
of many buildings makes you believe that this city was a big economic centre at
some point. Good theater in the downtown mall: each seat is a lazyboy! The
movie has to be good or we will fall asleep! We have dinner at the mall before
going to Costco to try to get a phone. Ha! Those Americans! Not much knowledge
there for a good phone plan for us but the place is filled with beer, wine,
hard liquor and the usual stuff we are used to have in Costco. To my surprise,
only the liquor is a good deal (and bottles of 1,5L of course), the food and
all the rest is as expensive if not more… Looks like we will start drinking! Back
to the ‘trailers’ parking’ to sleep… with ear plugs!
